SPIRITUAL ACTIVISM
In the Jivamukti Yoga Tradition, Spiritual Activism is a big part of the Spiritual Practice. I believe that this was one main topic, that attracted me to this very school and their teachings. That Yoga is so much more, beyond Asanas and ego driven means. To cultivate compassion for all sentient beings, and that every action makes a difference, no matter how small we believe it may be. One of the teachers of our teachers, Sharon and David, was Swami Nirmalananda. This Swami was living in the jungle with wild animals like serpents, tigers and lions, still no other being ever decided to cause him harm, as he himself was in such a peaceful state, they just knew, he was not of a threat. Even if he lived far away from civilisation and practiced “mauna”, silence, for many years, he was an activist, sending letters claiming world peace to politicians around the globe. What a great example!
Growing up and living on the Island of Mallorca for such a long time I have seen the drastic changes that the human pressure and climate change has made on the land. My wish, when I returned to my home, was to contribute in some way to the health and wellbeing of this fragile ecosystem and all beings included, animals, plants, rocks, trees, sea, water and air. I joined many NGO's on the Island as volunteer, like FVSM, Amics de la Terra, Toureco, Sóller Vall Verda, etc. I learned about the difficulties they were facing and the local, legal and political situation. I took courses with APAEMA on organic land management, planting and cultivating medicinal herbs for bees, regenerative farming, rewilding and renaturation, I planted trees and shrubs, cleaned forest for wildfire prevention, helped saving ancient abandonded olive groves from death and decay, worked with animal shelters and protection organizations.
I listened to Vandana Shiva Speaks, investigated, and read books about the island history, far and near.
I thought, maybe I can be a linking thread, that brings the visitors that enjoy the island and its nature so much, spending their holidays here, closer to the local people fighting for the wellbeing of this tiny piece of land stuck in the middle of the vast mediterranean sea?
So I decided to make it count and that a part of every contribution you give for a single dropin yoga class with me, a monthly class pass, a ticket to one of my events, an entrance to one of our chanting circles, a spot in a yoga retreat that I host, a private class you book with me will be used for the preservation of this land. So that you know, your investment is not only for yourself but you give something back to this precious land, that we all enjoy so very much.
As you know, the laws of Karma, what goes around, will come around. Thank you! - Lily
